Alltech has increased its North American feed market presence through buying an established company. The fermentation specialist founded its operation on feed additives in 1980, but has diversified into feed manufacture, crop protection and algal proteins through a number of acquisitions in recent years.

Alltech’s latest purchase is WestFeeds, based in the north-west US state of Montana. The company makes beef, sheep, pig, poultry and companion animal products at its two modern feed mills at Billings and Great Falls, with a further five distribution outlets across the state.

The Kentucky-based business invested in feed manufacturing through the 2015 acquisitions of Masterfeeds in Canada and Ridley, the US feed maker located in Minnesota. Since then Alltech has used the Ridley subsidiary Hubbard Feeds to buy Ranch-Way Feeds of New Mexico in June 2016 and now WestFeeds.

“WestFeeds has a strong reputation of providing producers with high quality animal nutrition products,” comments Alltech chief operating officer Michael Castle. “We believe there is great benefit for our customers in our teams joining forces for the future.”

Foe WestFeeds general manager Jerry Begger adds: “Our team is embracing the opportunity to join Alltech because we can see very clearly how our companies’ strengths complement one another, to the benefit of our customers.” Mr Begger will continue in his role with Alltech’s Kyle Klimpke moving to help manage the business.
