The Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC) has appointed Catherine Barrett to the newly created post of sector manager. Ms Barrett will focus on the grain and oilseed sectors, as well as seeds.
Ms Barrett’s career has included spells working as a researcher in the UK Parliament and at DG Agri in Brussels. Most recently, she worked at Bayer CropScience as a commercial technical adviser. Ms Barrett has a Master’s degree in agronomy from the University of Warwick and is a member of the BASIS Professional Register.
David Caffall, AIC chief executive, welcomed Ms Barrett to the organisation, saying: “Catherine brings an unusual combination of understanding the worlds of politics and crop production – an ideal skill set for a trade body. Her appointment reflects the increased workload that AIC faces as negotiations for Brexit intensify.”
