National agronomy services business Agrii has a new joint leadership, following David Downie’s decision to leave the business after three years as chief executive.

The company, a division of Origin Enterprises, has appointed Ronan Hughes and Jim Rennie as joint managing directors in his place to “best leverage the expertise and capabilities within the business”. Mr Hughes is managing director Agrii South and Mr Rennie managing director Agrii North.

The company says both executives have full leadership responsibility and oversight for all aspects of Agrii’s business operations, and will work closely with the other members of the Agrii leadership team to support and enhance the effectiveness of its regional, product, commercial, operational and research functions and organisation structures.

Mr Downie, who became chief executive in 2014, says he was appointed to draw up and implement a three-year strategy with Agrii founder and chairman Declan Giblin and his senior team. Having delivered on the three-year plan, he now intends to “rebalance his work / family life and pursue a sensible non-executive director career”.

Mr Downie is also chairman and an investor in Coffee Group, comprising the Cafe 2u mobile coffee bar franchise with 100 vans and the new Red Bean office coffee shop franchise.
