Forage specialist Germinal has strengthened its sales team with the appointment of William Fleming to cover Scotland and the north east of England. Mr Fleming has a thorough knowledge of forage-based livestock farming through his experience with his family’s dairy and sheep business, and his studies in agriculture at SRUC Auchincruive.
In his new post, Mr Fleming will report to Ben Wixey, Germinal GB national agricultural sales manager. His primary focus will be on providing technical assistance to merchant customers and supporting Germinal’s extensive grass and forage crop ranges.
“I’ve been used to a forage-focused approach where 10% to 15% of the farm is reseeded each year to produce as much as possible from homegrown feed,” Mr Fleming says. He continues: “This is a philosophy that Germinal promotes so I feel I can bring a lot of first-hand experience to my new role. It’s going to be increasingly important to push the benefits of forage-based systems in the future, especially in the climate of uncertainty surrounding the UK’s exit from the EU.”
