Market researcher Independent Business Resource (IBR) has appointed Ben Cooper to the newly created post of precision farming executive.

Mr Cooper, a graduate of Reading University from a Wiltshire farming background, will support the new satellite data service “My Data Plant” from the Kleffmann Group. My Data Plant gives growers processed satellite data on a five-day frequency basis to monitor crop biomass development. It can also create soil zone and variable fertiliser maps, giving growers control of localised monitoring of their crops to optimise crop-based inputs. The maps can be transferred directly to tractor terminals.

Mr Cooper says: “The opportunity to work alongside fellow farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural community with this new and exciting technology is brilliant. Technology and innovation is an ever growing part of agriculture and My Data Plant is an exciting vehicle for it.”

Roger Pratchett, director of IBR adds: “Ben also works part-time as a teaching fellow in agricultural business management at Reading University, which maintains and enriches his academic insights. We are delighted that he is joining the team.”
