Volac has sold its stake in a Dutch whey processing business to its partner, in order to allow the two businesses to develop in different directions.
DV Nutrition, a joint venture between DOC Kaas – a subsidiary of the DMK Group – and Volac has been producing whey protein and lactose-based ingredients at a factory based at Hoogeveen in the Netherlands since 2004.
However, both partners now wish to develop their businesses in different directions, with the separation of activities enabling “clear and focused strategies for the future to be implemented for both Volac and the DMK Group in the best interests of their respective businesses, stakeholders and shareholders”.
Therefore, the joint venture operation will cease by January 1st, subject to regulatory approvals, with the DMK Group acquiring Volac’s stake for an undisclosed sum. With full ownership of the assets, it will continue to operate from the site.
Volac and the DMK Group stress that they continue to enjoy an excellent working relationship. Volac was responsible for sales and marketing of all products manufactured by the DV Nutrition JV. Under the new ownership, it will continue to supply protein products sourced from the factory to its sport and active nutrition customers for the foreseeable future, after which new customer supply arrangements will be in place.
Permeate (lactose) products manufactured by DV Nutrition will be supplied directly to customers in the future by the DMK Group.
