National agronomy services company Agrii, part of the Origin Enterprises group, has installed a unique new, state-of-the art vegetable seed processing facility at its Throws Farm Technology Centre in Essex.
The company says the investment allows high value vegetable seed to be treated with the greatest precision, temperature and moisture control care for the best seed quality and protection.
The equipment was built and installed by the Dutch seed processing technology specialist TeaL Agro Technologies. At the same time, Agrii has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with the leading Dutch organic coatings specialist Ad Terram. It says this gives the UK seed industry access to a growing range of environmentally friendly, rapidly biodegradable and microplastic-free film coatings.
The high-tech film-coating process allows the inclusion of specific biostimulants and approved fungicides and pesticides to order, as well as a range of natural pigment colourings for better field visibility. The 100% organic, non-polymer, non-bioplastic coatings are also supplied as pre-mixes containing Ad Terram’s own range of biostimulants to promote nutrient uptake and increase stress tolerance for stronger, healthier crops. Agrii will also be distributing Ad Terram’s range of advanced bulb and foliar-applied biostimulants across the UK.
“Our new facility is designed to serve the conventional as well as organic seed trade,” explains Agrii regional commercial director, Neil Ross, stressing the growing importance of environmental sustainability in the UK field vegetable market.
“As the only seed treatment facility of its type in the country, we are using it to provide the highest quality treatments to deliver this for a broad range of vegetable seed.”
