Dutch multinational feed manufacturer ForFarmers is to acquire De Hoop Mengvoeders, based at Zelhem in Gelderland to the east of Holland, subject to regulatory approvals. It says the move will create a leading market position in broiler feeds, Europe’s largest feed category, across the Netherlands, Belgium and West Germany. Financial details are not available, and the transaction is expected to complete in Q1 2021.
ForFarmers says the increasing consumer interest in the provenance of food, and demand for high quality and sustainable foodstuffs is leading to more strategic partnerships in the broiler chicken supply chain. The De Hoop acquisition reflects this trend.
De Hoop was established in 1906, becoming The Netherlands’ only dedicated poultry feed supplier a century later. In full year 2019, the business sold 322,000 tonnes of poultry feed, primarily to broiler producers, generating €110 million in revenues. Around 80% of the volume is sold in The Netherlands with the remainder going to Belgium and West Germany.
Under its new owners, the business will trade as ForFarmers-De Hoop, overseen by De Hoop managing director and owner Gert-Jan Buunk and Michiel Schreurs, director poultry at ForFarmers Netherlands.
“We are pleased to join forces with De Hoop, where quality of feed and advice are also prime aspects of the business philosophy,” notes Pieter Wolleswinkel, managing director of ForFarmers Netherlands. “This combination creates a strong proposition for all stakeholders and fully fits into our recently announced Build to Grow 2025 strategy.”
Mr Buunk adds: “The decision to become part of ForFarmers is future oriented and was primarily taken with the interest of employees and customers at heart. In our longstanding history we have always wanted to attract customers by offering them the best feed and the best advice. In ForFarmers we have found the company with a same philosophy and customer approach.”
