The Cefetra Group, part of the BayWa conglomerate, has appointed Simon Borthwick to lead its new European fertiliser division from spring 2021. He has been general manager of Mole Valley Forage Services since 2015.

Mr Borthwick has over 20 years’ experience in the agricultural supply trade. He started as a grain trader for Banks Agriculture at the Andover office, later moving to Witney Grain. In 2009 he became managing director for Koch Fertilisers in the UK, where he oversaw the 2011 acquisition and integration of the JH Bunn fertiliser business.

Cefetra has created this new role to manage sales of polyhalite fertiliser mined in North Yorkshire by Anglo American – formerly Sirius Minerals. The company has exclusive rights to distribute this material, branded POLY4, across Europe.

“We are very pleased that Simon will lead our fertiliser business,” says Cefetra Group chief executive Daan Vriens. POLY4 will be a next step in providing new solutions to farmers across Europe and fits perfectly in our sustainability journey to lower the carbon footprint in the supply chain.”

Mr Borthwick add: “Having known of Cefetra and its people for many years, it has been impressive to see the scale and further evolution of the company. This new role will be an exciting one for me personally and a critical part of the company’s continued expansion across Europe.”
