Eurofins Agro Testing UK has acquired the independent contract testing laboratory Alliance Technical Laboratories (ATL) located in Needham Market, Suffolk.

Eurofins says the move reflects a growing interest in materials testing on-farm and data-driven decision making. It also extends the company’s UK footprint and positions it to meet rising demand for agricultural analyses.

ATL was formed in 2005 through the merger of two existing analytical laboratories, Alliance Technical and Gooch Garforth, and was acquired in 2012 by Bishop’s Stortford-based Harlow Agricultural Merchants.

Eurofins is a global laboratory services group with its corporate headquarters in Luxembourg. The business has six UK sites, including one at Stowmarket in Suffolk.
The ATL laboratory is UKAS accredited for the testing of soil, compost, effluents, digestate, water, food, and animal feed, and will now also offer three Eurofins products – Fertilisation Manager, Soil Crop Monitor and Soil Life Monitor which together help to improve soil health.

At the same time, Eurofins is adding capacity to its advanced forage testing. Its Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) tests dry and ground samples to provide a more accurate analysis than the wet NIRS alternative. Samples are also compared against Eurofins’ unique rumen character graphs to show their nutritional value and predict how they will act in the rumen.
