Cawood Scientific has made its second acquisition within a month, in a move that both extends its contract research capability and its geographical presence to Europe and the United States.

The Berkshire-based independent provider of laboratory analyses to the land-based industries has acquired i2L Research. With its headquarters lab in Cardiff and a field station at Consett in Co Durham, the business also has divisions in Spain, the Czech Republic and on the eastern side of the US.

i2LResearch specialises in product testing and development for the agrochemical, household pesticide and animal health sectors, taking products from initial concept to registration in the UK, EU, US and worldwide markets.

The new business will become part of Cawood’s Science business unit, alongside Mambo-Tox, its existing terrestrial ecotoxicology research facility. Mambo-Tox’ testing for toxicity in plant protection products and biocides will complement i2L Research’s tests for efficacy.

“i2L Research is an ideal strategic fit with Cawood,” says Cawood Group chief executive Simon Parrington. “Our vision is to become the global partner of choice for value added analytical testing, monitoring and insight. This extension to our geographical spread and testing capability will enable us to meet a wider proportion of our customers’ needs for regulatory studies.”

“It opens up larger European and American markets, allowing customers worldwide to source the vast majority of their contract research requirements from Cawood.”

In late June this year, Cawood acquired The Environmental Laboratory located in Sussex from Sigma-HSE.
