Dairy nutrition specialist Volac has acquired the UK-based bioscience business Micron Bio-Systems, in a move that both grows its silage additive range and introduces feed additives to its product portfolio.

Micron Bio-Systems manufactures and markets the Advance range of silage additives, Ultrasorb mycotoxin remediation additives, nutraceuticals and environmental products including the Microzyme slurry improver from its headquarters facility at Bridgwater in Somerset and a site in the US state of Virginia.
Bridgewater also has a state-of-the-art, UKAS certified testing facility for mycotoxin determination in feedstuffs. The company made a pre-tax profit of £829,500 on sales of £3.93 million in the year to December 31st 2020.
“This acquisition is the latest development in our ambitious growth plans,” comments Volac Animal Nutrition managing director David Neville. “Micron Bio-Systems is a successful business with an established reputation for providing innovation and quality products and advice, and for really caring about its customers. The acquisition has a strong strategic fit with all elements of the Volac Animal Nutrition strategy, which is based on advancing sustainable livestock production efficiency through technical leadership.
“The addition of the Micron products will strengthen the Volac ability to serve and develop feed additive applications for a rapidly changing industry,” continues Mr Neville. “The feed additive business – a new area for Volac – will provide a platform for new product development and allow for greater alignment with future industry challenges such as improving rumen microbial fermentation, more efficient production and reducing emissions.”
