Frontier Agriculture has acquired Yagro for its digital agricultural inputs purchasing platform and associated data analytics services.
Yagro was established in 2015 by former Syngenta innovations manager Gareth Davies, Norfolk farmer Dan Jolly and IT expert Richard Sears. Its cloud-based business to business platform aims to link input buyers and suppliers over the internet in the same way as the ubiquitous Amazon service for general consumers.
Yagro will continue to trade as an independently managed, standalone subsidiary within Frontier, from its Cambridge base. “We will retain our clear position and culture as the trusted independent provider of data solutions across the industry, while pulling on all the strength and resources the Frontier Group offers to supercharge our rate of innovation,” it says. “There will be no farm data sharing with other Frontier companies.”
“Yagro will be joining the Frontier Group as an independent, standalone subsidiary company,” notes Frontier managing director Mark Aitchison. “It has quickly gained a strong reputation for nimble design and the deployment of practical software solutions for farmers, advisers and the supply chain. This announcement will enable Yagro to fast-track its strong pipeline of products currently under development, which are much needed for the whole industry.”
Mr Davies, chief executive of Yagro, says the move recognises the quality of its team and capability. “We have genuinely empowered our customers towards better understanding and decision making on farm. Now anyone across our industry – from farmers to agribusiness to government – can be confident in navigating the hard changes ahead, with Yagro as their trusted and proven data partner to empower insight and decision making. This also marks a huge step forward for UK agri-tech and its role in driving the whole industry forward.”
“And this is only the start. As an industry, we are only just opening our eyes to the possibilities from genuinely good and usable data. While we do this, the wider environment is throwing everything at us – from climate change; to subsidy upheaval; trade and labour squeezes; rocketing input prices, and much more.”
Head of business development at Yagro Mr Jolly adds: “With the backing of Frontier, we can forge ahead with our plans for team growth and new analytical tools, supercharging the proven impact we’ve been delivering since 2015. We look forward to accelerating our developments with our farm users and our partners.”
