The Harbo Group has acquired the Murray Farmcare country store chain in order to expand the geographical reach of its rural retailing business.

Murray Farmcare, founded in 1973 and based in Dumfries, operates in Dumfriesshire and the North of England. It will continue to trade as Murray Farmcare under its new owner.

The move brings three new stores to the the Harbro store chain, making it 24 outlets across Scotland and Northern England, with a combined on-farm sales team of over 30 people. Harbro gains the Murray Farmcare transactional website as an additional sales channel, while the former Murray Farmcare stores and salesforce will have access to the broader Harbro product range.

“Murray Farmcare has a very similar offering and audience to Harbro, so it is a perfect fit and will allow us to expand our retail and on farm sales in the South of Scotland and over the border into the North of England,” comments Harbro managing director Chris Baxter. “We have the shared ethos of providing excellent customer service, advice and value for money.”

Murray Farmcare managing director Andrew Cairns adds: “We look forward to joining the Harbro group and offering the Murray Farmcare customer base a broader variety of products and services.”
