The consultation period for the government’s post-Brexit vision for UK agriculture outside of the Common Agricultural Policy, set out in its Health and Harmony Command Paper, drew 44,000 responses ahead of the closing date earlier this week – 20,000 in the last seven days.
Agronomy service businesses play a vital role in keeping their grower customers abreast of developments in a rapidly changing technical and regulatory environment, says the AIC’s Crop Protection and Agronomy sector. But this can lead to stress for the agronomists on the ground.
The AIC is one of eight agribusiness trade bodies to have co-founded a coalition to represent the interests of the sector in the imminent negotiations over the UK’s departure from the European Union. It is also one of a wider group of agricultural and food chain trade associations to sign an open letter to the prime minister calling for an early settlement of trade arrangements with the Republic of Ireland as part of the Brexit talks.
